When did it all begin?

Welcome!  I am not sure who plans to ever come check out this blog, but I imagine this will be a fun "diary", so to speak, of my reading.  If nothing else, I'll share it with my daughters one day and hope they'll share my love of reading. It will be all the better if that blossoms into a love of all that is dark and gruesome (cue my tears of happiness).

When, you ask, (and if you didn't you should) did I become such an avid Stephen King fan? I truly wish I could remember.  For as long as I can think back, I remember reading Stephen King novels. I think it began somewhere around 5th grade.  I gained my access to the ADULT library and never looked back. Is there anything better than browsing the library? I began venturing into more frightening books and soon fell in love with anything that could make my heart rate increase even the slightest.

I remember with fondness getting the "side-eye" from my mother on my book choices (though she never stopped me or asked about the books).  She was quick to catch on that I tended to favor one particular author.  Even though I got the random comments of  "How can you read such books?" "You'll have nightmares when you go to bed!" and my favorite "You couldn't pay me to read that crap", she always made sure I had the newest SK release as soon as it came out.  That's a positive right? She may not have agreed with my passion but she fed it for all it was worth! (Thanks mom!)

Anyone who knows me (even a little), knows I will tout the magnificence of SK to anyone who will listen.  People who have never ventured into SK's world tend to have many preconceived notions of this writer (I'm talking to you here, mom!). Nothing brings out my inner-rage more than listening to someone stereotype SK and his writing.  Hence, I make it my personal crusade to enlighten as many people as I can about Stephen King, and what a wonderful author he is (and if I do this right, I can hopefully make a "Constant Reader" of a person or two).Yes, he has been labeled a horror writer, but he is so much more! He is a master of character development! I would actually challenge people to find an author to compare to the talents of SK and how he makes you love his characters.  He will pull you into a story by page two and you'll never look back.  There aren't many authors out there that make people pick up a book with over 1,000 pages and wish there was more!

I hope you enjoy this blog and what is to come.  It will be a long process for sure, as I plan to only go as fast as my schedule will permit.  It is always fun to share any passion with another person who can appreciate it!  In that....happy reading!
